THE BULL TERRIER
The gladiator of the canine race, the Bull Terrier is renowned for his great strength, agility and courage. He originated in England, where he was selectively bred for his prowess in the dogfight pits. Powerfully built, muscular, symmetrical and active, with a keen determined and intelligent expression, the Bull Terrier is indeed an impressive sight.
Bull Terriers can be both independent and stubborn and for this reason are not considered suitable for an inexperienced dog owner. A Bull Terrier has an even temperament and is amenable to discipline. Although obstinate, the breed is described by the Bull Terrier Club as particularly good with people. Early socialization will ensure that the dog will get along with other dogs and animals. Their personality is described as courageous, full of spirit, with a fun-loving attitude, a children-loving dog and a perfect family member.
He is still inherently aggressive towards other dogs and therefore is usually best suited to being the only dog in the household. He is never the less an exceedingly friendly dog, with a sweet disposition and thrives on affection. With people, he is the kindest of dogs and is famous for his soft, benevolent attitude.
Because they have high energy and intensity, Bull Terriers need plenty of exercise and vigorous playtime. Being such a powerful dog, the Bull Terrier requires firm training, although he is extremely stubborn and may not immediately respond to his owner's commands. He also needs a good deal of exercise which should always be onlead in public areas due to his tendency to fight with other dogs.
Bull Terriers love in the company of people, and should live indoors with their human family. They don't do well when left alone for long periods and will wreak destruction when bored.
If you can be firm and consistent with training, stay active to keep up with your pup, and provide plenty of love and attention, then this dog may be your new best friend.
